Beam couplings for encoder feedback systems

June 12, 2013 By Mary Gannon Leave a Comment

P and MW Series beam couplings from Ruland Manufacturing Co. Inc., Marlborough, Mass., are designed specifically for encoder feedback systems. They offer high misalignment capabilities with low bearing loads. Machined from a single piece of aluminum or stainless steel, these couplings feature two sets of two spiral cuts for increased torsional rigidity, accuracy, and repeatability compared to single beam couplings. The multiple cut pattern accommodates angular misalignment and axial motion, but is particularly advantageous when parallel misalignment is present.

Like all their clamp-style flexible couplings, they have a balanced design, which allows for operation at higher speeds with reduced vibration. Standard bore sizes are available in inch, metric, and inch to metric combinations ranging from 3/32 to 1/2 in. and 3 to 12 mm. Options include larger bore sizes, keyways, and anodizing.
