In this video we see how the Burgmann Research and Development Department designs its magnetic couplings to handle applications with gas-loaded media… It’s more interesting than you think. The video begins with a brief recap of permanent magnets (and a rather neat demonstration with two magnets dancing in tandem on either side of the narrator’s palm). The video then takes us into the lab where a horizontal centrifugal pump gives us a visual display of how gas media can damage the bearing arrangement in a magnetic coupling.
